La Cena is an artist’s book in accordion format that unfolds to reveal the internal anatomy of a snake, depicted in a highly artistic yet scientifically inspired style reminiscent of vintage anatomy books. Rather than a literal representation, the illustration takes an expressive approach, turning the creature’s organs into a visual journey through its body. As the book expands, the full length of the snake comes together, guiding the viewer toward the final scene—a mouse, swallowed whole, resting within. Accompanying the imagery is a poem Mara wrote at the age of 14, narrating the act of predation with an evocative, almost mythical tone. The book plays with themes of transformation, and the cyclical nature of life and death, blending text and image into an immersive experience.
